Introducing: Dr Karen Morris

Dr Karen Morris has been a member of the CAHPR Cumbria and Lancashire Regional Hub steering group since 2013.

She is an occupational therapist by background who is passionate about de-mystifying research and developing research skills and confidence in others.

In October 2015, Karen was promoted to the role of Principal Lecturer for Rehabilitation at the University of Cumbria, having previously worked as a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy.

Karen (pictured far left) now coordinates the work of both the physiotherapy and occupational therapy teams. She also works with doctoral researchers and leads the MScOT (pre-registration) dissertation module.

Karen currently coordinates the University of Cumbria Mental Health Research Group and is the Research and Development Officer for the College of Occupational Therapists Specialist Section for Mental Health.

Her own research interests include occupational science and forensic mental health. She completed her PhD in 2012 having used qualitative methods to explore the concept of occupational engagement in a forensic mental health unit.

Karen is an active researcher and is currently working on developing an app based on her findings.

Other projects include being part of a Cochrane review team and working on a project with the College of Occupational Therapists to establish views about research capacity within mental health occupational therapy as part of the Recovering Ordinary Lives (2006) strategy.
